The Fremont Public Library District (the Library) is dedicated to providing as safe and secure an environment as possible and to ensure that all visitors to the Library are able to use and enjoy the facilities and services. All visitors are subject to the rules of behavior found in our Patron Behavior Policy.
Parents, guardians, and caregivers are responsible for the behavior and safety of those needing care in the Library, whether supervised or unsupervised. Because individuals develop at different rates, there is no universal age at which all visitors are ready to cope with the variety of circumstances they may face alone in a public space. Library staff members are not permitted to assume responsibility for the safety, care or supervision of visitors of any age.
The Library considers “supervision” to mean that the caregiver is within sight of their charge. Unsupervised children and other individuals needing care must be able to tell staff their full name, their caregiver's name and their caregiver's phone number upon request. The staff member may make this request if an unsupervised child or individual is violating the Library’s rules of behavior or if the unsupervised child or individual seems to be in emotional or physical distress. If the staff member is unable to locate or reach the caregiver, the police will be notified.
