The sudden death of Richard J. Daley left the city in shock and politics in turmoil.  Historian Barry Bradford will trace how ethnic politics, the rise of women voters, and the economy drove events.

The sudden death of Richard J. Daley left the city in shock and politics in turmoil.  For a week, nobody even knew who the new mayor actually wants – the city charter didn't specify who would take over!

In this fascinating multimedia presentation, historian Barry Bradford will trace the history of the mayors of Chicago from Michael Bilandic through Richard M Daley.

We will see how shifting ethnic alliances, the rise of women voters, and the challenge of bringing a rust belt city into the 21st century are reflected in the personalities of mayors such as Jane Byrne, Harold Washington and Rich Daley.
