The public is invited to the monthly meetings of the Lake-to-Prairie chapter of the Wild Ones, a national not-for-profit organization that promotes the use of native plants in landscapes.

Oak ecosystems once dominated our landscape, but now oak trees and associated species are in decline and isolated. Your yard is key to repairing those ecosystems! Find out which woody plants in your yard are causing trouble, and how and what to replace them with to enhance the health of your yard- and make it more enjoyable for you.

Melissa Custic is the Chicago Region Trees Initiative Specialist, managing projects developed by multi-agency work groups and helping the Chicago Region become the greenest, most livable, most resilient region in North America. Melissa holds a masters degree in Plant Biology and Conservation from Northwestern University plus a decade of experience in research, education, and outreach. She was named a 'Millennial to Watch' in 2019 by the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association.
