On Spetember 20, 2017, Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico, devastating this US island territory of 3.5 million people. The hurricane so completely devastated the island that it will take decades to recover, and may cost up to $95 billion. The death toll is still unknown.

Professor Paul Sirvatka and Associate Professor Sam Mitrani of the College of DuPage will discuss the science of hurricanes, the history, politics, and economics of Puerto Rico as part of the United States, and the effects of this disaster on Puerto Rico. The discussion will be moderated by Associate Professor John Paris.
