Jenny Riddle reveals the secrets of Jackie Kennedy and the Bouvier women in her dramatic review based on Randy Taraborelli’s fascinating biography.
When Jackie Bouvier first started dating John Kennedy, Jackie’s mother Janet commented, “John has an impressive pedigree, but doesn’t he look a little unkempt?” You know the phrase we often hear and use when we are discussing relationships–“It’s complicated”–well that is a good description of how Janet (Bouvier, Auchincloss) and her daughters, Jackie (Bouvier, Kennedy, Onassis) and Lee (Bouvier, Canfield, Radziwill, Ross) interacted.
Early on, Janet told her daughters the secret to happiness was money and power. Despite their efforts to rebel against their mother, both daughters ended up following her advice.
Perhaps many people don’t know that Lee was ready to leave her husband, a Polish prince, for Aristotle Onassis, but was convinced by her mother that it would ruin JFK’s presidency. Ironically, it was Jackie who later ended up marrying Onassis (after demanding a lump payment of $3 million and a hefty monthly allowance).
I’m sure most of you think you know all there is to know about Jackie Kennedy, but there is more to learn about how she interacted with her mother and sister. Jenny reveals the secrets of the Bouvier women in her dramatic review based on Randy Taraborelli’s fascinating biography.
